It’s coming to theaters! The first feature film from the YouTube team Derrick Comedy, titled Mystery Team, has been officially picked up by Roadside Attractions, the indie arm of Lionsgate. The group will embark on an innovative advance-release tour of colleges in the late summer, to be followed by a nationwide theatrical release this fall. Those who have been following this film know that it premiered at Sundance earlier this year to plenty of great reviews but wasn’t picked up during the fest. It may have taken a few months, but they’ve now got a distributor and best of all, it’ll be shown in theaters!
“We are excited to be partnering with Roadside for the release of this movie,” said director Dan Eckman. “They combine a wealth of experience with an openness to new ideas. We view the marketing as an extension of the filmmaking process, and we’ve always seen this as an ‘unconventional conventional’ movie. We hope to carry that spirit through the release.” If you’re unsure of this film, just ask any of the hundreds of people who saw it early in New York or Los Angeles, they all loved it, too! We’ll be sure to let you know when Roadside sets a release date and puts out a poster and trailer. No case too hard, no case too tough!
